And just like with the other blogging sites I've used, I completely forgotten I have one of these and stop using it. Oops?
Well, to recap a bit... the job at the Trixie Foundation didn't work out. Instead I'm now back at my old job taking pictures of cars for the internet for two major dealerships in town. Sounds like an easy gig, but if you've ever worked in the automobile industry you know the things you see are just the tip of the ice burg. But for as stressful as it can be I actually really enjoy it. Though I don't like doing it in the weather we've been having. Thank God the fabric to make curtains for my photo booth comes in on Monday. Then it's just a matter of getting the panels sown into curtains and hung.
Along with doing that, though, I'm trying to enlist in the Air Force again. I tried two years back and was disqualified because of heart surgery I had when I was seventeen from a car wreck. I appealed that to the Air Force Surgeon General and he denied my appeal. Well, two years later I go into the Army National Guard office to try and enlist with them. The recruiter there asks if the surgery was the only reason I was disqualified and since I wasn't 100% sure I asked my old Air Force recruiter. He said that was the only reason and that the SG was concerned about the integrity of my sternum after my surgery.
They didn't crack my ribcage to do my surgery.
So I resubmitting my appeal with a letter from my heart surgeon saying that they didn't perform my surgery in the manner that it's usually performed (by cracking your ribcage) and that there is no medical reason I shouldn't be able to enlist. Fingers crossed that's enough.
And I just got off the phone with a wholesale fabric place on the west coast about fabric I ordered for that photo booth. I ordered it over a month ago and it JUST got from their vendor to them. Needless to say I was livid. They're expediting it and I demanded to not be charged extra for it. So I basically got 35 yards of fabric plus enough thread to make curtains for $150. I'm feeling pretty awesome. Now if only I could get the auto inventory site to cooperate and load these stupid pictures life would be golden...
enjoy the ride

I'm ready for the good times
The past two days have been abnormally busy for me. It's not uncommon for me to have things to do, even with today being Saturday I've got a good number of things on my plate, but what is uncommon is for all those things to be completely non-work related.
This past August and September, my younger sister and I worked the New York Renaissance Faires up in Tuxedo Park, New York where we made some of the best friends we could ever hope to make. I've lived in central Kentucky pretty much my entire life and while I love all the friends I've made here, these ones have been amazingly supportive and loving despite only knowing my sister and I for two or three months. But two of these friends own a leather goods business together (Inner Beast Leather... I'll attach links to everything I mention at the bottom of the blog). They're on their way from Massachusetts to the Louisiana Renaissance Faire and decided to stop by Lexington on their way south. The past two days have been spent with them for the most part.
Thursday after they got in, we grabbed lunch in Midway at the Grey Goose. Despite living in Midway, I'd never eaten there before. Gentry and I shared chicken fingers while Chris ordered the Gooseburger and Kat got spinach dip and fried portobello mushrooms. The food was really good and the restaurant itself was very nice. We then went for a short trip into Versailles to stop at a liquor store so Kat could purchase a pint of Woodford Reserve before we stopped by the Equus Run Vineyard for a wine tasting. I've never been a big wine drinker, but I'm trying to do things outside my comfort zone, so I figured why not. I was pleasantly surprised to find that wine really isn't that bad when you get good wine haha. Then the four of us came home, Chris and Kat met my parents (fitting since they're abducting my sister :P) and they got to meet my friend Sam, who is ironically from the same town as Chris and Kat.
Friday we had plans to go to Buffalo Trace Distillery for a tour and then to Keeneland for the races since today is the last day of the fall meet, but plans never really work as you want. Chris ended up sleeping in late (which was totally fine) so we got a late start and didn't get to go to Keeneland, but we all went to the Distillery and got a little tour of the facilities. I'd never actually toured the distillery before so that was actually pretty cool. Gentry pointed out that it was a bit weird doing touristy things in your backyard but it was nice. At the end of the tour we did a bourbon tasting and Chris and Kat bought some bottles of bourbon for their collection, as well as some tumblers in which to drink said bourbon.
After that we packed up into their truck and went back to the winery for their complimentary wine tasting. We polished off the other wines we didn't try the day before (and I came to find out that their merlot really isn't that bad), stood around and talked for a little bit and then came back to our house to pick up my parents for dinner. We ended up leaving mom at home because she had to be up early and didn't want to be out too late, so packing dad into the truck we headed to Pazzo's Pizza Pub in downtown Lexington for some of the best pizza and beer you can get in the city. I don't know how long we were there, but we polished off two large pizzas and at least three or four rounds of beer before we said our goodbyes and parted ways. It was sad to see them go, but I'm really glad they decided to go a few hours out of their way to see us. I've missed them (and just about everyone else from New York) something fierce and getting that small taste of the north east was fantastic.
My next adventure is moving from Lexington, Kentucky to Webbville, Kentucky to the campus of The Trixie Foundation. I have to say that my trip to New York has been one of the best things I've ever done in my life. It has opened so many doors for me that I didn't even realize were there and likely never would have. I felt lost after I tried to enlist in the Air Force and was disqualified because of my car accident but living at the faire grounds for two months helped me get on the right path and I think I've finally figured out what I'm going to do with my life. Or, at least I've figured out what directions I need to be going. For now... I'm just going to enjoy the ride.

chapter one
I've used journaling websites for years (LiveJournal, InsaneJournal, etc) but I've never blogged. I expect there's not much difference except that I can private one so that only my friends can read it and I'm pretty sure I don't have that option here. But I figured I'd start because, well, I suppose I have interesting things to say. I'm starting a new job that I think will be one of the most rewarding things I've ever done and I've gotten into some new hobbies that I'm told I'm really good at doing and I want to share them with the world.
So here's to the beginning. My name is Amanda Zachary, I live in central Kentucky, I've been riding horses for nearly fifteen years, I went to school for Radio & Television Broadcasting, I work renaissance faires, I knit chainmaille and I'm the marketing director for Kentucky's largest and Appalachia's only no-kill animal shelter. I'm not entirely sure of what this blog will comprised, but I can promise that it'll be worth the read.
After this first post of course. This one kinda sucks ;]
